Acer Predator Helios 700 gives 2020 gaming laptops a beastly flagship

Published

on

Acer has revamped its gaming notebooks, with a quartet of laptops packing Intel 10th Gen Core processors and up to 240 Hz displays. The new Predator Helios 700, Helios 300, Triton 300, and Nitro 7 run the gamut from starting at $2,400 down to under $1,000, with NVIDIA graphics running across the line.

Acer Predator Helios 700

Top of the tree, the Predator Helios 700 is Acer’s flagship. Intended to replace a desktop gaming PC, it’s no ultrabook: a 17.3-inch display and sliding HyperDrift keyboard see to that. Still, that means there’s plenty of chassis to fill with potent components.

In this case, it’s either the overclockable 10th Gen Intel Core i9-10980HK or the Core i7-10875H processor, with either NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super or RTX 2070 Super graphics. There’s up to 64GB of 2933Hz memory, and PCIe NVMe SSDs in Raid 0 for maximum performance.

The display is a 144Hz Full HD IPS panel, with NVIDIA G-SYNC support. It’s paired with per-key RGB lighting and anti-ghosting on the keyboard, which uses MagTek mechanical switches for the WASD keys. There are also new racing keys, with 1.5mm of keycap curvature which Acer says makes for finer and more controlled in-game movements. They can be swapped out depending on the game you’re playing.

Connectivity includes the Killer DoubleShot Pro WiFi 6 and E3100G ethernet, plus two Thunderbolt 3 ports. Acer then throws in Predator PowerGem in the Core i9 models, which promises almost 4x the vertical heat conductivity compared to copper. The Predator Helios 700 drops in October, priced from $2,399.99.

Acer Predator Helios 300

More affordable and more portable, the Predator Helios 300 uses a 15.6-inch display and 10th Gen Intel Core H-series processors. They’re paired with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 graphics, driving the Full HD screen at up to 240Hz.

Inside there’s up to 32 GB of 2933MHz DDR4 memory and two PCIe NVMe SSDs in RAID 0. Acer then adds up to a 2TB hard-drive for bigger game libraries. DTS:X Ultra Audio is supported, and there’s the same new AeroBlade 3D fans and Acer CoolBoost manual fan adjustment as in the bigger Helios 700.

The Predator Helios 300 arrives in July, priced from $1,199.99.

Acer Predator Triton 300

Also coming in at 15.6-inches, the Predator Triton 300 uses 10th Gen Intel Core H-series processors as well, with up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 graphics. The 15.6-inch Full HD IPS screen has a 3ms response time, 300 nits of brightness, and 240Hz refresh. It also supports 100-percent of the sRGB color space, hence Acer positioning it as ideal both for gamers and graphics pros.

Inside, there’s room for up to three M.2 SSDs – one PCIe, two combos – along with three heat pipes and a dual-fan cooling system. Despite that, its metal chassis is 0.78-inches thick and 4.63 pounds. The Predator Triton 300 will go on sale in September, priced from $1,299.99.

Acer Nitro 7

Finally, and most affordable, the Nitro 7 promises portability. It also gets 10th Gen Core H-series processors, but tops out at GeForce RTX 2060 graphics. Still, you get three M.2 SSD slots – with up to 1TB in RAID 0 – and up to 32GB of DDR 2933 memory. There’s also Killer Ethernet 2600 and WiFi 6 connectivity.

It’s also 0.78-inches thick, though weighs 5.51 pounds. The 15.6-inch display is Full HD and 144Hz refresh, and has a non-glare finish. The Nitro 7 will go on sale in October, priced from $999.99.

Motorola Moto X30 Pro Will Have An Unusual Camera System

Published

on

This is just the tip of the iceberg for the Moto X30 Pro. The strangest thing about the model won’t be its unusually large camera sensor, especially since Xiaomi already claimed that crown. Instead, it will be the use of three focal lengths in the camera system that could mean the removal of one traditional part of that group.

Motorola’s Weibo account revealed that the Moto X30 Pro will have a 35mm focal point at its widest. This will be joined by a 50mm telephoto that could have a 2x magnification, as well as an 80mm longer telephoto option. If this is an accurate description, it would suggest that the phone will ditch the ultra-wide shooter in favor of two telephoto cameras when some of its peers opt to eschew telephoto cameras to make way for a macro alternative.

Whether this will give the Moto X30 Pro an actual advantage over other high-end phones this year remains to be seen, literally. It sounds almost like a mixed bag, at least in the camera department, though the rest of the rumored specs are on par for a 2022 flagship. The Moto X30 Pro, which could go by the name Motorola Frontier in global markets, is expected to run on a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, bear a 6.67-inch 144Hz OLED screen, and boast 125W super-fast charging for its modest 4,500mAh battery.

How To Fix Amazon Prime Video Not Streaming In 4K

Published

on

Not all Amazon Prime Video titles are available in 4K quality. Older movies and shows often do not support that format, and even some newer flicks will still be unavailable for a variety of reasons ranging from licensing to technical difficulties. As a result, your title of choice might look less-than-perfect, not due to a fault on Amazon’s end, but simply because that title may not support 4K in the first place.

Amazon has a list of titles available in 4K, so checking whether the one you’re trying to watch is, is fairly easy. You can see all the 4K offerings by heading over to the official Amazon website. The list is not very intuitive in the sense that you can’t check for specifics within the results as this is already a narrowed-down list. However, you can also simply type in the title of your movie or show into the search bar above to check whether it’s available on Prime Video and in 4K.

You can also search directly on Amazon Prime Video. Any variation of “4K,” “4K movies ultra HD,” “4K film,” or even something more specific like “4K romantic comedies” should produce a list of titles that you can watch right now. If you managed to locate your title on one of these lists and yet it still looks underwhelming, there may be other issues at hand.
