LG unveiled the LG HomeBrew a few weeks ahead of CES. I’ve seen the device today, and it looks like a gigantic, inconvenient machine.

It’s hard to grasp the size of the device based on photos, but it’s as big as a full-size espresso machine. You’ll need a big counter in your kitchen. But that’s not the issue.

The system uses a set of capsules. There’s a big tube-shaped malt capsule and three tiny Nespresso-shaped capsules for yeast, hop oil and flavoring. All these capsules come in a single box every time you want to start a new batch. But the capsules are not the issue either.

The main issue is that it takes two weeks to brew your beer once you’ve started the process. At the end, you get 5 liters of beer, or around 10 pints. Once you’re done, you need to replace the capsules and wait another two weeks.

Unlike traditional home brewing methods, you can’t start another batch while the machine is still brewing. So you’ll be out of beer quite regularly. Sure, you can buy two machines. Maybe LG should have designed a rackable system so that you can stack them up. But that defeats the purpose of an all-in-once, self-cleaning machine.

It’s unclear how much the machine and capsules are going to cost and if beer tastes any good. We couldn’t try the beer. There will be five different tastes — American IPA, American Pale Ale, English Stout, Belgian-style Witbier and Czech Pilsner.

Facebook Drives launches in US to help users collect for those in need

Facebook has introduced its new Season of Giving campaign, which will include the company matching eligible donations made through the platform on Giving Tuesday. Users can create their own fundraisers on their page, plus Instagram is introducing new fundraising tools. The company is looking to the future, as well, teasing that it will start testing additional ways for users to make and share their fundraisers (of the non-profit variety) in their feeds.

Giving Tuesday is the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the US; it is an activist movement that spans the world and involves helping those in need. In an announcement on Monday, Facebook said that when its users donate to US-based nonprofit organizations through its platform, it will match the donations up to $7 million.

Users can create fundraisers on both Facebook and Instagram, the latter of which will get some new tools soon — Facebook says it will introduce new ways to create and share fundraisers for nonprofits directly within one’s feed. More info on that effort will come at a later date.

Joining these things is Drives, Facebook has announced, a new community help feature that is designed to make it easier for users to collect goods for those in need. This feature can be used for things like collecting food and clothing, for example, and it is rolling out now.

Facebook Drives has been launched in the US and users can expect to see it become more widely available ‘in the coming days.’ The company says that it will hold a Live event called ‘Peace Through Music: A Global Event for Social Justice’ on Giving Tuesday, as well, which will include performances from artists like Billie Eilish and Ringo Starr.

Amazon Music teams with Lil Nas X for special holiday concert series

Amazon Music has teamed up with Lil Nas X to host an upcoming holiday concert series that will include live performances by a variety of artists, including the Foo Fighters and Miley Cirus. The company has teased the upcoming series with a new promo video showing off Lil Nas X as Santa, but you’ll have to wait for December to experience the new series.

The new concert series was announced by the Amazon Music Twitter account, which says that fans can expect live performances by Lil Nas X — who will also be hosting the series — as well as Miley Cyrus, Foo Fighters, and Kiana Lede. In addition to accessing the series on Amazon Music, it’ll also be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

The series starts on December 1 and will continue each Tuesday through December 15. According to Amazon, listeners can expect its holiday special — which is called Holiday Plays — to include ‘outlandish sets’ in addition to ‘playful Q&As,’ and ‘intimate performances.’ The series will kick off with a performance by Miley Cyrus.

As well, Lil Nas X will kick off the series with a live performance of his song HOLIDAY. The Foo Fighters will close the concert series with an ‘explosive’ performance, as well, Amazon says.

The event will be filmed at an unnamed historic theater with the goal of providing ‘truly unique and memorable music experiences,’ Amazon explains, ones that will include handmade stage designs unique to each artist, multiple costume changes, and other fun things like snow machines.

Music will include covers of some known Christmas favorites, including the Foo Fighters’ ‘electrified’ version of Run Rudolph Run and Cyrus’s version of Last Christmas. The series will air at 8PM on each Tuesday from December 1 to December 15; fans will be able to access the concert series in the Amazon Music app and Amazon Music on Twitch, plus US subscribers will be able to access it on Prime Video.

The Roku Channel gets AMC+ as its latest premium option

Roku, the top streaming platform in the United States, has added another premium video option, enabling users to access the AMC+ platform. The channel addition arrives on Roku devices, including set-top boxes, sticks, and smart TVs, as consumers continue to abandon traditional pay-TV services in favor of streaming.

AMC+ is a subscription from AMC that bundles content from multiple networks/services, including horror service Shudder, IFC Films Unlimited, and Sundance Now — all of this in addition to AMC content like The Walking Dead, of course. AMC+ shouldn’t be confused with AMC Premiere, which doesn’t include things like Shudder.

AMC+ was already available on multiple platforms, including Comcast’s Xfinity, Sling TV, Amazon Prime Channels, Dish, and Apple TV. The latest addition to the list is Roku, which has long dominated the streaming market. The service can be accessed in The Roku Channel, which offers users access to free content in addition to the optional premium platforms.

Roku users have access to a variety of premium subscription options, including HBO, Showtime, Starz, and Epix, as well as options like ‘Nick Hits’ and Noggin for kids, Hallmark Movies Now and Sundance Now, and more niche offerings like Shudder and AcornTV (for international programming).

The Roku Channel is free for anyone to access, including non-Roku users on select other platforms, but the premium subscriptions require users to sign up and pay, of course. AMC+ is priced at $8.99/month for those on The Roku Channel.
